While we're all busy obsessing over the reign of Donald J. Trump, important things happen, like Kendall Jenner deleting her Instagram account. Now, let me tell you why this is news. First of all, September Vogue declared her the face that launched a billion likes. That's right. A billion. That was her selling point a mere two months ago. How times have changed. With so much bitterness pervading the atmosphere, she probably just needed a break from the world's most dire addiction - social media. If the first thing you do when you wake up and the last thing you do before you go to bed is check your Instagram, you probably do too.

Should we be worried? Will she disappear off the face of the earth? Must we now discredit Vogue? No, no, and never. However, we can take her example and maybe detox a little ourselves. In an interview with Ellen Degeneres, Kendall said something quite interesting about her life-changing decision. She told her that she finally had the chance to engage in real life. As much as we all love to indulge in the latest news stories like the much-anticipated Gilmore Girls revival, the Super Moon, and Melania's resting bitch face, sometimes it's important to just live our own lives for a moment. Maybe we'll actually get to read all the books Rory has read or watch the Super Moon from our bedroom window. Maybe we'll forget about Melania for just a minute and refrain from oversharing our opinions about her face. Or maybe not.

The real question I know you're all asking yourselves is: why does this even matter? Why is this a CNN-worthy event? Well maybe it's because we all desperately needed something a little silly to get our mind off the frightening things that are happening in the world. Yes, politics matter. But every once in a while, we just want to hear about a Kardashian breaking the Internet again. Is that really so bad?

#IconCity: Rising Star Liya Kebede

Ethiopian model, Liya Kebede, is the next lady to land in IconCity for her glamorous sense of style and rising modelling career. Kebede has walked in shows like Louis Vuitton and Proenza Schouler. She's covered magazines like Marie Claire and Vogue Italia. She also happens to be a L'Oreal girl, a sign of success in the fashion and beauty industries. On the side, she just happens to be a mother to two gorgeous children, Suhul and Raee. Kebede was the first black cover star of Vogue Paris in five years, covering the most recent May Issue of the magazine. At 39 years old, she remains one to watch and her career just keeps on flourishing.

Lena Dunham and Vogue: Shit Just Got Real

It has officially been confirmed, ladies and gents. Lena Freaking Dunham will be covering February Vogue (Yes, that is her middle name as I know it). Let's take a moment to process how AWESOME this is.

Now, remember when I spoke about Cate Blanchett covering Vogue (view here)? Well, this is a whole new ball game. For multiple reasons, Lena Dunham is an icon who fully merits this controversial Vogue cover. I use the word "controversial" because that is unfortunately how this has been viewed. Unlike other fashion magazines, Vogue covers do not merely display celebrities and models, but fashion icons. As a brilliant young writer with balls like you've never seen before, Lena Dunham definitely deserves icon status. Though her sense of style does not generally get her on anyone's best dressed lists, she stays true to herself and that is what earns her icon status (and thankfully, she'll be dressed by a stylish for her shoot).

I think that the best part of this news is the imaginary conversations I've replayed in my mind between Anna Wintour and Lena Dunham. The scenarios are endless.

So, congratulations to Dunham (hopefully it won't just be a beauty shot) and to Anna Wintour for making a whole new statement for Vogue.

29 Days Until NYFW

Cate Blanchett Covers January Vogue. Obviously? Not Really.

Let us converse about the upcoming January 2014 Vogue cover featuring Cate Blanchett. I have a confession to make. I've never seen a film with Cate Blanchett in it. It's an embarrassing reality and I promise I'll get on that, but what I have seen are her multiple puzzling Red Carpet choices. This celebrity's fashion sense boggles my mind every time I see her in any of my favourite fashion magazines, but I suppose that's what makes her interesting, isn't it? Now, here's where I'm getting at. Reflect for a moment and ask yourselves: what makes you select one magazine over another? Are you a loyal Vogue fan and barely have to consider this question? Or is your decision influenced by some external factor, say, the cover page for example?

Personally, I am obsessed with fashion magazines. Give me a copy of all of them for my birthday and we'll instantly become best friends. In fact, my only qualification for choosing a magazine (if I absolutely have to) is whether one of my fashion icons is on the cover because that implies that there will be an interesting article featuring said cover girl inside. Now, getting back to Cate Blanchett. Seeing as I've just confessed to having never seen any of her films, I probably wouldn't pick up a copy of next month's Vogue. I suppose I do judge a magazine by its cover. Don't we all?

So, I have to ask myself: how do I feel about Cate Blanchett? Indifferent? Intrigued? Her fashion sense makes quite a statement and stands out in this industry filled with far too many trend followers. Here is another question: what is the different between a bold dresser and a bad dresser? Is fashion subjective? Who decides? Her stylist? Anna Wintour? Does Cate Blanchett merit this spot on the cover of January 2014 Vogue because she is a fashion icon or because she is an Oscar-winning film star? Many would say that she's both. She is said to be a safe bet for the Vogue cover, but she is definitely NOT a safe dresser. At least, that's one thing most of us can agree on. Is the fashion magazine industry about selling a magazine by displaying a "safe bet" or promoting an image? Are YOU sold on Cate Blanchett?

Simply some food for thought.
