I've always hated nail art. Read post, "Apparently Nail Art Is Dead. I Never Thought It Was Alive". It has always seemed to me like a kindergarten art project gone wrong, a way to get rid of your holiday decorations, an accident with the glitter, or just plain tacky.
The other day, something strange happened. I broke my two thumb nails. It was a horrendous experience I wish to never recreate, but alas, some things cannot be avoided. This predicament led to a slew of after-effects. For one, I decided that I had to cut my other nails to even them out (they were beyond nail file repair). Once that was done, I knew that certain colours would not work on my new short nails. The long and short of it is that I decided to paint one of my nails a different colour. Don't ask me how I arrived at this conclusion. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time. I knew that my elegant long-nailed manicure was flushed down the toilet and that I needed a refresher to make my hands feel alive again.
I decided to paint my accent nail in flashy metallic silver. Though I've never been a fan of metallic nails, the New Year inspired me to try something new. After painting that single nail silver, I opted for a dark grey mani to compliment the nail. Unsatisfied with the results, I started to draw all over my nails with silver nail polish like a child left alone with a box of crayons and something magical happened. It looked a little bit like this:
Dare I say it? I may have actually tried nail art. Intentionally and partially, unintentionally.
I can't say that I'm fully committed to this trend nor can I confirm that I absolutely love it. However, I may experiment with a Pinterest tutorial or two. We'll call it my New Years resolution.
Have a great weekend lovelies!
And ponder this...

#ForTheSakeOfFashion: Starting 2016 With The Hair Tuck
With the New Year rapidly approaching (it's tomorrow, in case you hadn't heard), it's time to start thinking about the trends that will jumpstart 2016. Rather than looking back at the most popular trends of 2015 such as Addidas Stan Smiths, fringe, and floppy hats (to name a few), let's look deep into the future and attempt to predict the next fashion trend to plague the (non)fashion world.
Based on my deductions, it seems that "turtleneck hair" may be the next mind-boggling fashion look of 2016. What is "turtleneck hair", you ask? According to several well-versed fashionistas (such as my personal favourite, The Man Repeller), turtleneck hair is the act of tucking your hair into your turtleneck. Though this isn't new within the fashion world, it has recently grown in popularity for some unbeknownst reason.
Could it be the faux bob it creates that allows us to change our hair without cutting off those beloved locks?
Could it be the cozy feeling it gives us by keeping every strand on our head snuggled inside our sweaters?
Could it be that our hair just needs a safe haven from that tumbling snow?
OR could it be that there is no reason at all?
Is it possible that we, the fashionistas, are doing it, "just because (it looks cool)"?
Whatever your reason for contemplating this trend, don't overthink it. Sometimes it's best to give it a shot and see if it feels like you. The benefit of looking just like a fashion girl? Well, that's just gravy.
Happy New Year!
(and ponder it),

All I Want For Christmas Is Boxing Week
![]() |
| via raredelights.com |
Here is what it means to me:
NUMBER 1:
Michael Buble's voice radiating through store windows, singing "All I Want For Christmas Is You", serenading every window shopper around. All I want for Christmas is you, Michael Buble.
NUMBER 2
Elaborate Christmas displays in department store windows. If you don't stop and stare for at least a minute, you may in fact be a fashion grinch in disguise.
NUMBER 3
Endless shopping, just because I'm on holiday. Even though you aren't shopping for gifts, you can justify every purchase you make as "getting in the Christmas spirit". Nothing could be more wonderful.
NUMBER 4
Fluffy Santa-themed lingerie merely meant to get you in the mood, screaming "try me, try me".
NUMBER 5
Sequins. So many sequins. All day, every day.
NUMBER 6
Love, Actually. But actually, the film.
NUMBER 7
Friendlier people. This may be the only time of year when your grumpy next door neighbor will wish you happy holidays filled with Christmas cheer.
NUMBER 8
The last hurrah before the year comes to an end and you can make some resolutions you'll most inevitably break by February.
NUMBER 9
Chinese food.
Just kidding.
Just kidding.
AND FINALLY:
NUMBER 10
BOXING WEEK: The seven day reward for your non-stop spending in December. Even though you thought you were all shopped-out, you just can't resist another sale, can you?
Happy Holidays, lovelies!

The Magical Third Element
Hello lovely readers,
I'm back after a four month hiatus with a deep and heartfelt apology. Due to foreseen circumstances (school, work, and other highly significant stress inducers), I put the blog on hold and am full of regret and a powerful new craving to write. Hopefully, this powerful new craving will translate into something magical in today's post.
Speaking of magic, for the last few months, I've been trying to determine what sets a fashionista apart from the rest. Don't get me wrong. I think we are all equals and that was in no way meant to place the fashionista on some kind of pedestal encrusted with Swarovski crystals (if it must). What I am inferring is that there is something special that makes one look at a girl on the street and exclaim (in our minds, of course), "that girl is a total fashionista" (perhaps in more natural-sounding words).
The question is: what is it? What is that magical element?
After much contemplation and a tad bit of research, I discovered that it must be her "third element". While my foray through Paris led me to believe that less is more, Montreal is all about "a little bit more is better than less". Allow me to explain.
When I get up in the morning, I have my outfit planned from the basic blue jean to the little black dress. However, once I am dressed and ready to go, I often feel like there's something missing. That feeling should not be ignored, my friends. Sometimes it's a sign that your outfit is incomplete and requires a little extra something to make it capital f Fashion. While anyone can throw on a pair of jeans with a basic white-tee (i.e sweater), it takes a fashionista to find that one extra piece that can attract onlookers and lead them to believe she is worthy of the title.
Here are some examples of pieces you may add to make your look go from regular to fashion girl (if those are indeed your aspirations):
1) A belt (preferably one with some fringe or some elaborate buckle)
2) A statement necklace (for those times when you have no clue what to add)
3) A fur vest (it's almost winter and you know you'll thank yourself later)
4) A scarf (because all the cool french girls are doing it)
5) A hat (if you claim to have a hat head and nobody has told you otherwise)
6) Funky socks (only when appropriate and can be shown off)
7) A headband (if you're feeling a bit nostalgic for Blair Waldorf)
So, ladies and gents (but probably mostly ladies), I challenge you to add a third element every day for one week. And believe you me, this is a challenge because I have tried it myself. If you can pull it off, you may put on the fashion girl crown and prance around the streets like you own the place (respectfully, of course). Have a lovely week and ponder it.
KISSES,
Bella

#IconCity: The Unavoidable Truth About Olivia Palermo's Style
Olivia Palermo may have played the bitch counterpart to Whitney Port on The City, but she remains one of the most stylish women in the fashion industry. Known for experimenting with bold colours and prints, Palermo can do no wrong when it comes to fashion and consistently remains on everyone's best-dressed lists. For always keeping it classy, taking risks, and having a killer shoe closet, Olivia Palermo has just landed in IconCity and even if you don't like it, you know you're dying to own every single thing she wears.
Here are some of her best looks:
XOXO,
Here are some of her best looks:
LOOK 1
Palermo looks classy as ever in black shades and a flared Little White Dress with a stunning statement necklace. But the best part about her look would have to be that floral print Dior handbag which takes her from simply classy to a daring fashionista.
![]() |
| via whowhatwear.com |
LOOK 2
Let's talk about everything that's going on in this look that should appear busy, but on Olivia, looks effortless. From the fluffy trim of her jacket to a pair of floral skinnies combined with striking leopard print shoes, her ability to mix and match is overwhelming. Add a burnt orange handbag to the mix and you know you're dealing with a pro.
![]() |
| via nadyana.com |
LOOK 3
Speaking of mix and match, Olivia also happens to be very good at juxtaposing the sleek and the playful by combining furry Fendi shoes and a fur trim hood with her sophisticated pink handbag. What lies underneath? Printed black and white up top and on the bottom. Somehow she makes it all come together like artwork and we couldn't be more envious of her skills.

LOOK 4
Are you as obsessed with this colour as I am? Did you just recently become obsessed after seeing Olivia pull it off? Thought so. With a killer snakeskin handbag and sexy nude stilettos, this girl is ready for fashion week.

LOOK 5
Google Olivia Palermo and chances are you will spot her wearing this sunshine yellow hue on a number of outfits. It seems to be her favourite colour and with reason. Palermo rocks this yellow dress with an unexpected splash of Barbie pink and leopard print high heels. It's a look that could've only come from a woman like her and she's got everyone dreaming they had thought of it themselves.

What do you think of Olivia's style? Which look is your favourite?

'Tis The Season To Be Fluffy
Winter is all about fluff. Snow tumbles on the ground only to transform into a bundle of white fluff that children make snowballs out of and throw at innocent passerby. As Buble would say, "It's a marshmallow world in the winter" and frankly, that sounds delicious. So, baby, it may be cold outside, but at least we can rely on fluff to keep us warm and cozy and compliment our Starbucks cup. This season, there is nothing more glamorous than some extra texture and for those who are not big on fur coats, it's time to take a look at some other alternatives.
Here are ten fluffy pieces that I ADORE in the winter time. Take a look and get inspired.
The Fluffy Jacket
For those who are accustomed to wearing fluff, the fluffy jacket is an excellent style choice that will keep you feeling fashionable and warm simultaneously. It adds instant chic to your look and will make you want to keep that coat on no matter where you go.
![]() |
| via shopcade.com |
The Fluffy Scarf
Not ready to commit to a coat? No matter. The fluffy scarf is a small accent that will keep you feeling snug without the extra weight of a jacket. It can be subtle or bold, but make sure it's true to you.
![]() |
| via fashioninspirationblog.com |
The Fluffy Vest
A fluffy vest is yet another alternative to the fluffy jacket. You may not be ready for all that fluff and I completely understand. This way, you can ease into it with a sleeveless variation of your typical jacket.
![]() |
| via fabsugar.com |
This year, fluff has been transferred to our handbags and we have Karl Lagerfeld to thank for that one. You may not want to WEAR the fluffy, but you can always carry it on your shoulder.
![]() |
| via lolobu.com |
The Fluffy Sweater
This look is an easy fluffy go-to. Not sure what to wear? A fluffy sweater is ALWAYS the answer at this time of year.
![]() |
| via connectedtofashion.creatorsofdesign.com |
The Fluffy Skirt
While this may seem bizarre to the average onlooker, the fluffy skirt is definitely a fashion statement. It defies expectations and when done right, it can look super cute with just about any slim fitted sweater.
![]() |
| via atlantic-pacific.blogspot.com |
The Fluffy Hat
Nobody does a fluffy hat quite like a Russian fashion editor. Mira Duma reminds us that a fluffy hat can be chic without looking like over (read:road) kill.
![]() |
| via forum.purseblog.com |
The Fluffy Muffs
It rhymes, therefore it is. Didn't some philosopher say that? Muffs are a great alternative to the hat. Breezy day? This invention is your chic solution.
![]() |
| via elleuk.com |
No, this is NOT meant to be practical or keep you warm. However, it's whimsical and that in itself is a reason to try it.
![]() |
| via topshop.tumblr.com |
Fluffy Mittens
Who needs fingers? If you want to avoid frostbitten hands, do as the fashionistas do and wear fluffy mitts. They may seem silly now, but just wait until you slip them on. Toasty.
![]() |
| via carolinesmode.com |
I hope you'll feel inclined to try one of these fluffy options this winter. Nothing beats the cold quite like a fluffy fashionista.
XOXO,
Bella

#IconCity: Blair Waldorf Is Still An Icon In My World
Gossip Girl may have ended, but it defined my personal style throughout high school and made me unable to get over the school girl look despite having graduated five years ago. I know what you're thinking. Move on. That's like asking Daniel Radcliffe to forget he was ever Harry Potter. It was the role that changed his life. In that same way, Gossip Girl changed mine. It marked my adolescence and every other high school girl's, particularly the fashionably inclined. Though many were drawn to Serena van der Woodsen's boho effortless style, I loved Blair's even more. She always looked chic and put together, from her bows that converted me to the trend forever and those consistently gorgeous high heels (because real betches wear heels to school. Duh.) I know that Leighton Meester isn't Blair, but she was my icon and needs to be on this list. Serena can't do it without her. So here are five of my favourite Leighton Meester looks.
LOOK 1
Spotted: Blair looking amazing in black and white Balmain at The Judge Premiere. Are we envious? Yes.
![]() |
| via People Stylewatch |
LOOK 2
A classy girl always knows that her best outfit is her little black dress. Queen Blair invented that memo. After Chanel, of course.
![]() |
| via www.look-a-day.com |
LOOK 3
Leighton looks 19th century glam at the 68th Annual Golden Globes in Burberry.
![]() |

LOOK 4
Can you say Va-Va-Voom? Blair, sorry, Leighton, looks divine at the Charles James: Beyond Fashion Met Gala. PS. It was Emilio Pucci.
![]() |
| via wwd |
LOOK 5
The difference between Blair and Leighton? Leighton is downtown edge, while Blair is school girl chic. If there's anything I love, it's a statement pant.

What do you think of Leighton's style? Which is your favourite?

Are You A Trendista Or A Fashionista?
My obsession with quizzes and categories has finally translated onto my blog. We're all dying to know if we're a high heel or a sneaker, if we're more Kim or Khloe, and if we're an apple or a peach. Quizzes have become integral to identity formation and thus, it's crucial to ponder our responses to achieve accuracy. One of the most important questions that every fashion girl must ask herself is: am I a trendsetter or a trend follower? Fashionista or trendista? Do I really like leather pants or do I find them atrociously sticky and uncomfortable? Will I be wearing combat boots just because I saw Olivia Palermo wearing them (something I've never seen her do)? Do I have my own personal style or have I gone through my entire life listening to the dictates of fashion designers when constructing my wardrobe?
Enter existential crisis here.
Today is your lucky day. I've decided to create a short quiz to help you find out where you fall. If you're a fashionista, embrace your bold nature and continue to shine. If you're a trendista, make sure that you're conscious of your ways and certain that this is where you'd like to be.
WHAT TYPE OF FASHION GIRL ARE YOU: TRENDISTA OR FASHIONISTA?
1) What Kind Of Bag Do You Own?
a) Michael Kors, duh.
b) Celine. Because I'm a rich bitch and it's really beautiful.
c) Um...Urban Outfitters? With fringe...
2) What's Your Favourite Spring Nail Colour?
a) NAIL ART!
b) Neon. Neon. Neon.
c) Depends on my mood.
3) What Do You Think Of The Peplum?
a) SO last year.
b) Timelessly classy.
c) Hell no.
4) What Jacket Are You Planning On Wearing This Spring?
a) Bomber, obvi.
b) Denim.
c) Same one I wore last year...with a few more patches.
5) Who Are Your Favourite Designers
a) Michael Kors, Chanel, and Herve Leger
b) Celine, Isabel Marant, and Marc Jacobs
c) Prada, Mary Katrantzou, and Peter Pilotto
6) Have You Ever Heard Of Canada Goose?
a) Um yeah. I own like 6 coats.
b) I don't live under a rock.
c) Yeah. Every other person on the street owns one. TURN OFF.
7) What Are Uggs?
a) My favourite brand of boot.
b) UGGly
c) Boots every girl has in her closet. Not me, though. I don't believe in boots.
8) Do You Believe In Normcore?
a) No.
b) Normcore is my middle name.
c) Now that it's a trend, I'm not sure I do.
MOSTLY A's
You're a TRENDISTA...with a captial T. You make it a point to know about all the latest trends and follow them religiously. The newest bag just landed on the racks? You NEED to have it. You're ready to spend the bucks on the best brands in the market. But does everything you wear reflect your personality? Not always, but you don't care as long as everyone wants what you have.
MOSTLY B's
You're in the MIDDLE. You like to check out the trends for inspiration, but don't consider them to be the holy bible. You're willing to experiment, but if you don't like it, it won't land inside your closet. You probably own at least one covetable item, but for the most part, you try to stay true to your own personal style. Perhaps you are undefined, but that doesn't bother you.
MOSTLY C's
You're a FASHIONISTA. You love to fantasize about your favourite brands, but you know you probably can't afford to wear them. You take everything as inspiration for your DIYs. You know who you are and aren't afraid to make a bold choice despite public opinion. You may commit fashion crimes every once in a while, but that doesn't stop you from owning everything you wear.
Toodles,
Bella

What's A Normcore?
![]() |
| via Vogue UK |
According to Vogue UK, Normcore is defined as a "bland anti-style". It may be a trendy word, but it doesn't believe in trends.
Synonyms: boring, bland, blah, meh, dull, mundane, insipid.
Antonyms: WTF, OMG, WHAAA.
Yes, I am just as confused as you are.
To clarify, normcore is for the classicists. It is a wardrobe filled with recyclable basics that are logo free. To the lady with the Michael Kors MK bag, this is not for you. And to those who loved the Moschino Hershey dress, you won't like this either. However, it has penetrated the fashion world, particularly the M.O.D (models off duty, not the movement).
![]() |
| via shefinds.com |
1) If you can't afford the labels, normcore is your BFFAEAEAE.
2) If you're feeling lazy, throwing on a white t-shirt and jeans is the latest laissez-faire look that everyone's coveting (SO Parisian chic).
3) STOP TRYING SO HARD
All the cool kids are doing it. So, let's take a break from our wild selves and radiate cool vibes for a second. There's another kind of fashionista in town.
XOXO

#IconCity: BadGal Wins Fashion Award
Rihanna doesn't do normal. It's just not part of her fashion vocabulary. A bold diva through and through, this woman aims to impress. Nobody wears a baseball cap like Rihanna and that's one of the reasons she's so fabulous. After winning the CFDA award for Icon of the Year, she obviously needed a place in IconCity. It's self-explanatory. At Paris fashion week, our jaws dropped lower and lower with each outfit and somehow, she managed to distract us from the other fashionistas on the streets. As the recent poster girl for Balmain, she incites us all to take a step closer to the wild side with loud embellishments that emanate sex appeal. Are you ready for some badgal Riri? If not, don't fret. Most people aren't prepared for these extravagant fashion statements.
So, let's all propose a toast to Rihanna's impeccable sense of style and to her CFDA Icon Award. Based on these choices, she definitely deserves it.

My Valentine's Day Wishlist
When I was a tween traversing the threshold of puberty and watching too many Mandy Moore movies (because I was born in the 90s and Katherine Heigl wasn't yet a thing), I fantasized about the day I would fall in love and receive an abundance of flowers and chocolates delivered to me on Valentine's Day. Then, when I finally got my first boyfriend, my expectations were so high that we broke up on Valentine's Day due to said insurmountable expectations not being met. After that breakup, I was set on pretending Valentine's Day didn't exist and when that didn't work, I found myself trashing this consumer-sucking holiday and developing a cynical perspective on the world. Today, everything has changed. I'm no longer a fantasizer, a lover, a high maintenance princess, a delusional single gal, or a romance hater. I've decided to embrace Valentine's Day as the day we learn to love the most important person of all: ourselves. Now, don't get this the wrong way. I'm not an egocentric maniac showering myself with gifts or contemplating marrying myself as Sue did on Glee several months back. I'm simply learning to enjoy being single and thriving in my independence through self-love. In honor of this special day, I decided to conjure up a basket full of Valentine's Day goodies that would all be red and probably never cross a man's mind (unless he's particularly in tune to non-cliched fashionista cravings). Here are 7 red items that my basket would contain:
NUMBER 1: MAC RED
Because despite all the raving reviews on M.A.C Russian Red and M.A.C Ruby Woo, M.A.C Red wins that war in my world as the best and boldest red lip created by M.A.C.
![]() |

NUMBER 2: A Glass of Red Wine
Because even though I'm more of a white wine kind of gal, red is just too darn classy to pass up.

NUMBER 3: A Abundance of Red Candy
Because it's common knowledge that red is always the best flavour.

NUMBER 4: Taylor Swift's Red Album

NUMBER 6: Red Soles (On A Pair of Louboutins That Is)

NUMBER 7: A Red Celine Bag

With two days left until Valentine's Day, it's time to prepare that imaginary gift basket and get into the red mood. What would be in YOUR basket?

What Your Handbag Says About You
If you've been searching for a mildly humorous and slightly invented description of your handbag personality, you're reached your destination and you can park your mind right here. Whether a fashionista or just any woman, our handbags are everything because they contains our entire world while making a statement about who we are. There is reason we are all obsessed with our purses and consider them to be an investment towards identity formation. We all need a great handbag to store our belongings because it's the wrapping paper to our heart and soul. You don't want some used tissue and a paper bag to hold your soul now do you? So here goes nothing:
CELINE LUGGAGE MINI
This Celine bag is for the practical and structured woman with a highly diversified selection of pastimes. A high class fashionista, she needs this classic designer bag to invoke status and composure during Fashion Week and the multiple events on her calendar. She isn't flashy nor is she extravagant, but merely a sophisticated girl with a busy life to boot.

MICHAEL KORS TOTE
A girl who carries a label-splattered Michael Kors tote definitely wants to be recognized within the fashion community. As one of the most well-renowned fashion brands across the world, Michael Kors implies status and a higher level of chic than the average passerby. A Michael Kors girl is slightly sporty, but still keeps her femininity intact through her classy handbag. She cares a lot about how others perceive her and lives for trends.

THE LONGCHAMPS "Le Pliage"
The Longchamps girl is aware of brands, but has a completely effortless sense of style. She may be slightly more spontaneous and Pele-Mele in her every day life, but she captures that French non-chalance that is almost impossible to imitate. Her life is a panoply of scattered thoughts, demonstrated through the items inside her purse. Nothing makes sense, but it's her own comfortable mess that makes her unique as an individual.

THE TORY BURCH Cross Body Messenger Bag
The Tory Burch girl is a little sporty and hasn't a worry in the world. Her motto is: Hakuna Matata, Fashionista and she wears it across her shoulder in the form of a casual cross-body. She's a hipster who loves herself a flowy skirt that flares in the breezy summer days. She's flirtatious, but ultimately, she's just one of the guys.
THE CHANEL BAG
No matter what shape or size, all Chanel girls have one thing in common: class. For this girl, there's nothing more important than her handbag. She could be dressed entirely in H&M, but her Chanel purse is all that matters to signify status. She's very blunt and direct with a slightly sarcastic sense of humor, but in the end, she means well and values leadership. When she has a goal, she sticks to it. And knowing her, she has many aspirations buried inside her purse.

And if you didn't fall under any of these categories, perhaps you are a trendsetter and opt for something a little more transparent, in lego form, or with a touch of fur like Fendi's baguette. Maybe your handbag is just an afterthought to your oh-so-glamorous outfit. Perhaps you haven't quite find yourself just yet. It takes a while for us to find ourselves within the depths of our purses, but eventually, it completes us in every way, shape, and form.

#ForTheSakeOfFashion
One of the most intriguing phenomenon in the world of the average fashionista is the decision to wear something impractical simply because it looks stop-and-stare-you-wish-you-were-me cool. The biggest statement anyone can make involves the abandonment of practicality and reason with regards to fashion. For example, you know you're a fashionista when...you're caught wearing sunglasses indoors. As fashion week is rapidly approaching, it's intriguing to observe fashionistas in their natural habitat wearing articles of clothing and accessories that capture the attention of photographers because there only purpose is to beautify and please the eye. I've decided to make a list of items that fall under this category and if you're a true fashion risk-taker, I hope it inspires you to take the plunge.
NUMBER 1: Sunglasses Indoors (OBVI)
The sole purpose of sunglasses is to protect our eyes from the sun. NOT. In the world of fashion, it is a reflection of our personality and coolness level. If you're Anna Wintour or Andre Leon Talley, sunglasses at Fashion Week are NOT out of place. Can you pull this off?

NUMBER 2: Transparent Handbags
Isn't it every person's dream to know what's inside YOUR handbag? It's not like it consists of all our private "feminine stuff"and basically your entire universe, right? This may appear to be an invasion of privacy, but it's still a coveted purchase for fashionistas everywhere. You don't have to understand it for it to be cool.
NUMBER 3: Capes
Let me begin by saying that I ADORE capes. They're the ultimate chic coat. BUT, when do you wear them? In the Spring when it's not too cold nor too hot. It can't be raining or snowing either. Basically, it has no practical purpose, but to make us feel like fashion superheroes. That a pretty good justification though, right?
NUMBER 4: Peep-Toe Booties
I'm obsessed with peep-toe booties and they are ridiculously impractical. Boots are intended for the Fall/Winter seasons, but a peep-toe bootie involves bare toes that can catch frostbite if the temperature drops too low. Solution? Wear them in the summer. You may be hot, but looking hot and feeling hot often come hand in hand.
NUMBER 5: The Micro-Mini
Sure, a mini dress is SO 1965, but must we stand for hours on end in our 5 inch wedges? Absolutely. A micro-mini refuses to allow us to sit like ladies, but that's all fine and dandy when you're a fashionista.
So there you have it. These are some of my own personal favourite impractical fashion trends. If anyone asks, you did it #forthesakeoffashion. And that's not so bad now is it?
