An Honorary Birthday Post Starring Audrey Hepburn

You know you're famous when Google has your face plastered on its homepage for your birthday. You also know you're famous if you have a minimum of 10 books written about you, a Halloween costume of yours truly, and an elaborate Wikipedia page. I'm talking about your favourite gamine and Givenchy's original muse, Audrey Hepburn. Today would have been her birthday and as a celebration, I've decided to countdown some of Hepburn's most iconic looks. After seeing her various films including Breakfast at Tiffany's, Charade, My Fair Lady, and Roman Holiday, I was completely and utterly smitten. I couldn't resist the Audrey charm. And who could?

In honour of Audrey Hepburn, I've decided to count down 10 things that made her Audrey.

NUMBER 10
The Pearls
Who can forget those iconic Breakfast at Tiffanys pearls? The perfect accent to an LBD, pearls became a symbol of class and sophistication as Audrey pranced around 5th avenue with these jewels cascading down her neck. In fact, Audrey probably made New York popular. That's how popular she was.

NUMBER 9
The Little Black Dress
The original LBD was Audrey's Givenchy dress from Breakfast at Tiffany's. From that moment forward, the acronym LBD became fashion's favourite cliche, a constant reminder of our favourite icon's classic style. It also happens to have become a wardrobe staple in closets from Germany to Canada to Dubai to Timbuktu.

NUMBER 8
Long Gloves
Who doesn't fantasize about a long pair of gloves to adorn your hands as you traipse around the room in a beautiful new gown by Givenchy? There's something about long gloves that makes a woman dream about romantic affairs with a charming man. Sigh.

NUMBER 7
An Endless Array of Beautiful Hats
Don't you rue the day that flamboyant hats went out of a style? Audrey was a hat girl through and through (which makes her my favourite person of all time). You weren't a lady without a statement hat to adorn your head at a fancy affair. Let's bring this trend back, shall we? For Audrey's sake...

NUMBER 6
The Head Scarf
And when she wasn't wearing an extravagant hat, you could catch Audrey in the streets with a head scarf, looking more elegant than a pompous British man. Let it rain because my head is covered in chic.

NUMBER 5
Larger Than Life Sunglasses
In case you were wondering where the bug eyed look came from, look no further than Audrey Hepburn. You could not catch this woman without a pair of large sunglasses to maintain an air of mystery, glamour, and poise. Where do you think Anna Wintour got her style inspiration?

NUMBER 4
The Pixie
Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, and Charlize Theron are all women in Hollywood who've dared to try the pixie. The truth is that Audrey Hepburn started it. This haircut gave her gamine status and made androgyny feminine in a way no other woman could master.

NUMBER 3
The Cigarette Holder
Without her cigarette holder, how would we recognize Holly Golightly? The cigarette holder almost made smoking look (dare I say it?) chic. If you were going to take on the habit, it was essential that you did so with class. If only they were still in use.

NUMBER 2
Loafers
Audrey Hepburn wore loafers and suddenly, it was appropriate footwear for women. Though I remain an advocate for high heels, I can't ignore this women's ability to make a flat shoe look chic. Only Audrey Hepburn could make me reconsider flats.

NUMBER 1
And finally, The Brows.
Cara Delevingne may be the new brow girl in town, but Audrey was always the original. Audrey saved  women from a lifetime of incessant plucking. She should probably get an award for that alone. She is the eyebrow queen and we must bow down. Just kidding. But who can argue the boldness of a bushy brow?

Audrey Hepburn once said: "I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles". We clearly share a mind. Today, we continue to post these words on Pinterest boards and FB statuses alike to honour Hepburn and her wisdom. A real icon makes a statement that resonates throughout time. Let's make this quote our motto, shall we?

Happy Birthday to Audrey Hepburn, Holly Golightly, and Eliza Doolittle.

Love,

Bella

Happy Birthday Sarah Carrie Jessica Parker Bradshaw

I know that Sarah Jessica Parker has acted in a number of romcoms as damsel in distress (The Family Stone, Failure to Launch, Did You Hear About The Morgans). I also know that she starred in Glee as Vogue Editor and mentor to Kurt Hummel. And I know that she currently has her own line of shoes with Manolo Blahnik (that we've all been anticipating). And I also know that she has her own perfume called Lovely (you're nobody until you have a signature scent). BUT predominantly, she remains Carrie Bradshaw: the icon, fashionista, and sex columnist with enviable wit, a pink tutu, and a curly blond fro we all wish we could pull off. As a writer and fashion girl, Carrie is one of my own personal icons and I've always identified myself with her character. Who hasn't called themselves a Carrie at least once in their lives in reference to a one-that-got-away ex-boyfriend or date with destiny gone wrong. Today is SJP A.K.A Carrie Bradshaw's birthday and in honour of this grand event, let's reminisce about her most iconic Sex and the City looks.

THE SIGNATURE PINK TUTU
She wore this on a billboard ON A BUS. If you don't recognize this look, you've never watched SATC and I'm not quite sure what you're doing here. However, I invite you to start viewing the show and subsequently, you can come read this post.

CARRIE'S FUR
Carrie wore a fur coat on SATC like it was nobody's business. Back then, it was social taboo. But nothing stopped this fashionista. Also, note that she's wearing a fur coat with sandals #forthesakeoffashion.

GATSBY CARRIE
Carrie Bradshaw was one step ahead of us all in a fringe dress. How adorbs does she look with her french lover?

CARRIE'S CROP TOPS
Back in the 90s, Carrie would wear a crop top and we'd all catch ourselves staring enviously at her abs, wondering if we'd EVER wear this trend. Today, we eat our words as the crop top comes back, giving us all a second chance to give this Carrie favourite a try.

THE NEWSPAPER DRESS
I may have not worn this back in the early 2000s, but I'm proud to say that this vintage newspaper dress stuck and that I currently have one of my own in my wardrobe. Wait to go iconic Carrie.

A LOVE AFFAIR WITH DIOR
Carrie clearly loves her Dior as this shirt clearly indicates. If ever you wondered why bloggers everywhere are sporting t-shirts with full skirts, here is your answer.

CARRIES COATS
Can we all steal Carrie's coats pretty pretty please? I'm in love with this feminine and romantic look on Carrie. So very Dior.

A VOGUE ACCESSORY
Like myself, Carrie carries her Vogue like a fashion accessory. In this head to toe black look, you can't leave the house without that splash of colour. And what better way to explore that then with a magazine? Let's not neglect to mention that adorable hat. And we all know Carrie loves her headwear.

CARRIE'S STUDS
This look is kind of amazing. Three reasons. Mixed prints. Short sleeved jacket. Studded belt. Who could've know that Carrie would have predicted all the hottest trends of the new millennium?

THE WEDDING DRESS
Though the Sex and The City movie fell short of the television series, we still obsessed over that wedding dress that happened to be featured in a magazine photoshoot (NBD). Only an icon would choose Vivienne Westwood on her wedding night. Even though she was left at the alter, we still got to sit at the edge of our seats as she entered the room in a glorious gown and argue with our friends about that awkward bird on her head.

Now that you've reminisced about Carrie's best looks, giving you an urge to marathon the series, what are YOUR favourite outfits? Were you a fan of the wedding feather?

Cheers,

Bella
